Sad news today....

I just learned that a young man that I learn how to bind from, a VERY basic 1A yo-yoing skill, has passed this week. Please see the URL from dave's skill toys below for a the message from his mom.

This news saddens me deeply personally, and though I did not know him, he will be missed.

At the meeting, I will be saying a pray for him. And we may share stories aout him as well.

Update on Chicago Yo-Yo Meeting...

Well folks, there's been a lot of changes in the
libaray "study" rooms. Here's the skinny....

   
I have to wait until the week of the 29th
to reserv the room. (I'm on top of this.)
There is now a HUGH table in the middle of the
room now. Complete with chairs. Not much room for
yoin'. (I guess we can push the table to the back of
the room and the chairs up against the walls.)
We can't have food or drinks. (I kinda figed this
one.)
   
We can't have more then 8 people. (
Any more then 6 people and we'll be packed in like
sardines!)
   
We can't make a ton of noise.
(Told you about this one, but the room is in a FAR
corner of the 6th floor.)
   
The lighting in
the room STINKS!!!! (I'll ask if there are some extra
lights they can turn on. This will make video shooting
a real pain!)
   
The time is still going to be
2:00pm unitl as long as they will let us go on to. (I
will check on limits this monday).
I need some
ideas on how I will post direcstions to the libaray.
Public trans (which I know the best), Driving
Direcsions, what? ( I think the libray has some very
good directions on there web site, I'll look into
this.)
  
Again, I'm not asking for anything. I only
want to bring together a group who want to come ready
to teach and learn a few tricks!

Chicago Yo-Yo Meeting!

Alright gang the whole reason I started this mess is because I wanted to keep everyone posted about a yo-yo meet i'm planning. This seemed a good way to do it.

About 3 years ago, at 27, I stared yoing. And never really have these things as a kid, I didn't know trick the first. My god father knew more tricks then me, and he has not yoed in 30 years! So I practiced mostly while waiting for the bus, then ANYTIME I was waiting for ANYTHING, and finally ANYTIME I could find my hands free. Inclueding during meetings at the office.

The problem was I did'nt have anybody to yo with in Chicago. NO clubs, meetings, street preformers outside of Borders on Michigan Ave. And I know for a fact that I can learn a lot FASTER if someone can SHOW me a trick, rather then tring to sus a trick out all by myself. I found out that little tid-bit when a co-worker at my job took an intrest in yoing and I started to teach him. He learned every trick I knew in a few weeks that took me from a 2 years of practice to learn myself.

So what to do? Well I saw a video that Takeshi did in his home town called "mas y mas" that was filmed in someone's home for a meet. Awesome! Lots yoers, a few spintop guys, but a good time for all! I wanted to go to one. But again none in Chicago. So I said nuts to this, I'll plan a meet!

Now I live in the city itself. But I know MANY yoers do not. SO I picked the Chicago Public Libary Harold Washington Center, in down town chicago as the most likely location. I'm going there myself today to check on the room.

Well folks I'm giveing this a try...

A friend said starting a blog would be a great way to keep everyone updated about an event I'm planing, so here goes. And haveing my own personal webspace my come in handy someday!
